One Big Lake

"One Big Lake" is a fictional political campaign in a near-future United States. The aim of the campaign is to bulldoze all the Great Lakes into the greatest lake -- aka One Big Lake. The idea is that this giant lake will be a symbol of unity in an otherwise fractured America. The project will also provide jobs and stimulate the economy. It will show that Americans can do whatever they put their minds to. If America can put a man on the moon -- why not make One Big Lake?

One Big Lake appears in Allegra Hyde's short story, "Democracy in America," which is included in her story collection The Last Catastrophe.
